creative direction + videography (2023)
Rue Resther is a visual exploration of memory, transformation, and place, capturing a formative year of personal growth while I was living in Montreal. Shot on Super 8, the film blends a nostalgic aesthetic with a contemporary perspective, reflecting on how a city and its rhythms can shape one’s voice. Living on Rue Resther, I was immersed in a culture of creativity that shifted the way I saw the world. This project is a tribute to that shift, a documentation of fleeting moments that once captured, become something lasting.
Every element of the film was designed to heighten its dreamlike quality. The script, written after a day of filming in my neighborhood, was later translated into French and narrated by a male voice-over, introducing a deliberate sense of detachment and abstraction. This choice allows the film to transcend a singular viewpoint, inviting viewers to interpret the emotions and imagery through their own lens. Inspired by the livelihood of colour, I incorporated vibrant transitions that guide the viewer’s emotional journey.
This approach to storytelling extends beyond personal narratives, as it holds immense potential for brands looking to connect with their audiences in an authentic, emotionally resonant way. The tactile beauty of Super 8 film, paired with thoughtful narrative choices, creates a sense of warmth and sincerity that cuts through the digital noise. Whether for brand storytelling, campaign visuals, or immersive content, ‘Rue Resther’ exemplifies how film can be leveraged to communicate identity and emotion with depth and artistry.
For brands seeking to craft a compelling, nostalgic, and visually striking narrative, this style of filmmaking offers a powerful way to engage audiences, blending past and present to tell a story that lingers.
